A complete renovation of the existing 46,000-sf multiple, separate buildings at Westwood ISD junior high school and approximately 56,000-sf new additions. The new expanded campus will combine the existing four buildings under one roof, improving campus safety and accessibility. New additions include locker rooms, band/choir hall, kitchen, cafeteria, art labs, and expanded administration offices. Mechanical systems included a combination of gas-fired packaged rooftop DX equipment and heat recovery VRF technology. LED lighting with energy code compliant lighting controls are provided throughout the facility. Controls include both localized room dimming control with vacancy sensing, as well as time clock based control for common areas. The structural design incorporates exposed structural steel and strategic use of timber decking resulting in a modern high tech aesthetic. The design process included a phased construction approach to keep the existing school facilities operational while new construction is underway.
