New 245,000-sf, 8-story high-rise Courthouse building, 3-acre green space, and five-story parking garage in Tyler, TX. The new building will house 12 trial courtrooms, central jury assembly room, various administrative services, law library, district attorney’s offices and is provided with separate elevators for public use, judges and staff, and for those in custody. An additional basement level will serve as court holding with an underground tunnel that connects to the existing County Jail for secure and efficient in-custody transfers.
The facility is a concrete framed structure with steel-framed cupola, 20-ft deep basement, and concrete-framed underground tunnel. Lateral resistance utilizes a shear-wall frame interactive system to minimize seismic forces. Steel façade frames support GFRC, brick, and stone elements.
Plug-in busway vertical risers provide electrical power distribution for both normal and emergency power. Daylit areas throughout the facility are supplemented by energy efficient LED lighting with fully networked lighting control, including daylight harvesting.
