Chimp Haven is a retirement sanctuary designed entirely for chimpanzees on 200 acres of forested land and currently houses over 200 chimps. First chimpanzee sanctuary in the U.S. for retired biomedical research chimps and is funded by a public/private partnership. Outdoor habitats include naturally forested land, concrete structures, indoor caging and outdoor corrals. The administration areas include multiple food prep/kitchens, vet procedure/treatment suites, cold room, and offices.
The expansion project will include nearly 200 additional retired chimpanzees and includes new outdoor habitats with naturally forested land, concrete structures, indoor caging, and outdoor corrals. New administration areas include multiple food prep/kitchens, vet procedure/treatment suites, commissary, and offices. In March 2018, Chimp Haven received seven new chimps that “tipped the scales,” bringing the total number of chimps in sanctuaries greater than the number of chimps in research facilities.
